Naeem Khan Spring 2009 had an Asian inspired collection, with obi belts, and brightly coloured embroideries.Khan presented asymmetrical dresses, bell-bottoms, and florals pieces that his faithful clientele will love.Khan is one of my favorite designers, as he excels at creating the most luxurious red carpet gowns. I loved the silver/orange ombre strapless gown with the sequined bodice, and pink metallic number. With the Emmy's coming up, hopefully we will see one of these dresses on the red carpet.
Tommy Hilfiger's Spring 2009 collection colour palette saw an explosion of citrus shades, including peach, lemon and tangerine. For once the collection was not heavily dominated by his signature red/white/blue.
Carmen Marc Valvo's Spring 2009 collection was full of signature ladylike cocktail dresses and red carpet gowns.The colour palette mostly consisted of black, white, silver and gold in mostly metallics.
Zac Posen's Spring 2009 collection was full high glamour, from big metallic chandelier earrings to embellished dresses.There were many frills, sugar-pink cocktail dresses, Grecian dresses, animal print gowns, skirts with square cut outs, ruched cocktail dresses, and even a large canary coat/dress.My favourite piece was the gorgeous one shoulder metallic dress, which I can imagine Kate Mara, friend of Zac Posen, will get first dibs on.Continuing the dark romance trend, that dominated the Fall collection, Posen produced a stunning array of black dresses.
Calvin Klein's Spring 2009 collection was full of crisp, minimalist pieces, in mostly ivory, with some cerulean blues and nude pieces.The look was dramatic, but the pieces were totally wearable.The standout pieces were those that had origami folds and pleats
Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2009 presentation a truly feminine collection. Several of the dresses were very seductive by their bright floral prints and slinky silhouettes.The red carpet dresses, were was by far the best pieces of the collection, with stunning shapes, embroidery and bead work. I especially love the metallic taupe strapless dress with embroidered leaf detail.
Peter Som's Spring 2009 collection was full of bold prints and shiny metallics.The collection was so beautiful, that I found myself loving every piece.Peter Som has tried to cater for every woman, as there is something for everyone.Bold colours were a shock, as Peter is known for his minimalist style.
Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2009 collection was dominated by criss-crossing shapes and cut out pieces on the bodice of most of his dresses, which added a touch of playful bondage to body-con dress.The majority of the collection was in black and white, but there were also green, red, pink, and nude pieces in the collection.Cigarette pants, T-shirt dresses, asymmetric dresses and red carpet gowns were the highlights of this presentation,Although it was a great collection, I felt a touch of deja vu, especially with the criss-cross pieces.
Rodarte’s Spring 2009 collection was typically edgy and oh so feminine, with a space age feel to it.The colour palette consisted of delicate nudes, bold blacks, vibrant blues and a mixture of floaty pastelsLeather fishnet-like leggings, revealing tops, leather skirts, holey sweaters, and knit skirts.The finest moment of the collection was when the floor-length gowns were presented. These gowns would look perfect on any red carpet. Natalie Portman, Tilda Swinton and Dita von Teese would all look marvellous in these gowns.Hopefully these gowns will not be confined to the pages of magazines.
